Let's start with the bad news: murder

There were 73 homicides last year, two more than in 2022. That's mercifully lower than the 89 that we hit in 2021, but still way higher than the roughly 30 that we were averaging in the decade before the pandemic.

For some reason this APD graphic from 2022 lists only 80 murders in 2021, but the total was definitely 89.

There are no easy explanations for murder trends, and anybody who claims to have one shouldn't be taken seriously.
