Record Early Vote Turnout –– don't get excited

Yesterday was the first day of early voting and Travis County saw a big jump in total votes over 2020. But it's important to keep in mind that a lot more people voted by mail in 2020 due to Covid.

How does the police contract affect your utility bill?

Today City Council members weighed the fiscal implications of approving the proposed police contract.

The most obvious concern is how much the city will have to raise taxes or cut other spending in order to accommodate a $218 million increase in police compensation over the next five years. What is less appreciated are the implications for Austin Energy, the city-owned electric utility, and the rates that it charges.
