Is this good enough?
The city is still not doing enough to protect people from the cold.
Ella McCarthy of the Statesman reports that a record number of people –– 600 –– sought refuge at one of the city's seven warming centers over the last several days.
Hopefully that means that anybody who wanted shelter over the weekend was able to get it, but we'll have to wait to see what we hear from those living on the streets and their advocates in coming days.
Whatever we have now is of course an improvement over the jack squat that was available from the city during Winter Storm Uri three years ago. And even though the need for warming centers was one of the big takeaways post-Uri, the city's response during last year's ice storm was far from ideal. From the Texas Tribune at the time:
