The chief concern

Second thoughts about our police chief options.

Broadnax delays decision on chief

City Manager T.C. Broadnax was planning to announce his pick for Austin's next police chief tomorrow, but on Friday he said that he was going to take more time before deciding who should be the city's top cop.

This position is too critical to our Police Department, the City organization as a whole, and this community to rush. Therefore, I’m going to take additional time to consider our two very qualified candidates before making a final decision.

Interesting. The wording suggests that his decision remains limited to the two finalists –– Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman & Cincinnati Assistant Chief Lisa Davis –– but my sense is that Broadnax announced the delay due to resistance to both candidates from a variety of stakeholders.

The word on the street is that Broadnax wanted Norman. Problem is, nobody else is psyched about the guy. Why?
