The last election: Siegel v. Bledsoe
One candidate offers details.
The elections aren't over. At least not for everyone. There's still a runoff election for City Council District 7 between Mike Siegel and Gary Bledsoe. Leslie Pool, the last member of the original 10-1 Council, has held the seat since 2015 and will be leaving office in January. You can read more about the race & district here, from my pre-general election report.
If you happen to live in the district, early voting is happening right now and Election Day is next Tuesday.
Two weeks ago the candidates faced off in a pre-runoff debate hosted by the League of Women Voters at City Hall. I watched it so you don't have to.
It was nice to have a full hour for two one-on-one debate, allowing each candidate substantial time to answer questions about the major issues. I also thought the moderator, Carol Eckelkamp of the LWV, did a good job of asking pointed questions and pushing the candidates to actually answer them.
Here are my main takeaways ....
I know what Siegel stands for. Not quite sure about Bledsoe
The only thing that is clear about Bledsoe is that he is opposed to the HOME initiative and generally wary of other changes to the land development code. He talks about the need for transparency, "common sense," and public input, but he offers few hints of what direction he's heading on public policy.
