The right right-winger wins
The new Texas House speaker is good news for Austin.
We're taking a long weekend, so no newsletter tomorrow or Monday. See you on Tuesday!
Yesterday Dustin Burrows, a Republican from Lubbock, was elected speaker of the Texas House.
Burrows is a right-winger through and through. He's vehemently anti-abortion, favors private school vouchers, and authored bills that sharply curtailed the ability of local governments to raise taxes or set their own regulations. He's suggested he will work to undo police oversight measures that Austin put in place. He's super stoked about Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense.
